One of South America’s strongest Dota 2 teams will try to make a name for itself at TI 10.
South America is definitely not the strongest Dota 2 region in the world. In fact, there were hardly any teams from the continent that could go toe to toe with the best in the world a couple of years ago. However, thanks to the effort of some world-class Dota 2 organizations, South America now has several representatives at the biggest event in esports.
One of them is beastcoast. A team often considered the best on the continent. Made up of skilled players, some of which have been a part of the Dota 2 scene for several years. Even though some people don’t consider beastcoast to be among the favorites at the upcoming competition, the team can easily surprise even the best in the world. With that being said, let’s check out some interesting facts about it.
Disappointing results for the team in 2020
Since beastcoast resides in South America, the team had to compete in the local competitions throughout 2020. As you know, COVID-19 prevented the Dota 2 teams to meet at LAN events. That’s why every region decided to organize loads of online events, and SA was one of them.
Even though people expected beastcoast to be among the most dominant forces in their region, this wasn’t the case. Héctor Antonio “K1” Rodríguez and his colleagues won only 2 events in 2020, both of which included numerous tier 2 and tier three teams. In fact, the team took only took part in one major tournament – DreamLeague Season 13. Despite being the favorites in their match against iG, beastcoast lost both maps.
The disappointing results continued through 2020. As bc failed to win every event they took part in. What’s even more surprising is that the team consistently finished 5th and 6th, despite being the favorites. The team’s last event for the year was the BTS Pro Series S4: Americas, where they finished 4th.
Bringing things back in 2021
Despite the shaky performance throughout 2020, beastcoast had a strong start to the year. Thanks to the excellent performance, beastcoast was able to qualify for TI 10 fairly easily. This gave them a much-needed confidence boost, and was a breath of fresh air after their questionable results last year.
Sadly, beastcoast was unable to take advantage of the hype train as they failed to impress at every event after the DPC regional league. Perhaps the biggest surprise was BC’s result at the WePlay Animajor, where they finished 14th.
Beastcoast is one of the Dota 2 teams that can explode at any time. But judging by the latest results, they have a lot of work to do. Despite having some of the best South American players, they struggle against other good SA teams. This means that the team will have problems when they face the top teams from the other regions.
