LoL: Three Biggest Storylines Ahead Of LCS Week Seven

LoL: Three Biggest Storylines Ahead Of LCS Week Seven

The LCS is back with another week of entertaining games on the horizon.

The LCS 2021 Championship (aka the Summer Playoffs) is almost upon us. Eight out of ten teams will compete for a chance of representing North America at the 2021 League of Legends World Championship. With everything still to play for, here are the three biggest storylines heading into Week Seven of the LCS.

Can anyone stop 100 Thieves?

The short answer is no, the long answer is yes. 100 Thieves has not slowed down since the beginning of the Summer Split. The Thieves now have not only the best record in the Summer Split, but in the entire regular season standings. While it is only one game, this is the best opportunity for 100 Thieves to pull away from the pack and secure that coveted first seed in the playoffs. This will allow them to choose their Semi-Finals opponent.

While they will need to beat the best teams in order to win the split, winning against an easier opponent will automatically earn them qualification for worlds. This would be a big deal for 100 Thieves, as at the end of the Spring Split, they outlined they were far off the mark in their hope of attending the World Championship.

It is safe to say they were correct in that evaluation and their changes have worked wonders thus far. While Reapered had his limitations when it came to “clutch” moments on Cloud9, he has set his team up to be only one best-of-five away from reaching their second World Championship.

Is FlyQuest legit now?

FlyQuest, or as many are calling them, FlyQuest Academy, took the league by storm last week as they went 3-0. This was surprising considering their main roster was on a ten-game losing streak. This week was vital to FlyQuest’s playoff hopes. And with Counter Logic Gaming on the verge of collapsing, Week Six was the perfect time for FLY to hit the reset button and solidify that eighth seed for themselves.

It will be interesting to see what FlyQuest does ahead of the upcoming week. They have a mountain to climb as they face the current three best teams in the league. Those being 100 Thieves, Evil Geniuses and TSM. Many would argue this could be a tough week for the Academy side. While they did go 3-0, it was against teams that are currently not at their peak. On the other hand, if this FlyQuest Academy roster is as good as their performances suggest, then the smart thing to do is to keep their roster in for Week Seven.

Is C9 Licorice back?

While it is definitely too early to call, the former best top laner in the league had a monstrous week. Licorice earned Player of the Week and looked back to his best. Following Week Five, FlyQuest and Golden Guardians announced they would be transferring Licorice to the Golden Guardians roster. To many this was a shock, to some, it was a smart move. If Licorice is to be the future of Golden Guardians, then it is best to embed him into the organization now and plan for a rebuild ahead of the 2022 season.

During his time on Cloud9, Licorice was widely known as the best top laner in the region. He was Mr. Consistent as he always found himself being the main carry for his team in every team fight. Licorice lost his way on FlyQuest; he was often left on an island and the team failed to get the most out of him. At least in Week Six, Licorice looked alive for the first time in over a year. It will be interesting to see how Licorice fairs against his old side in Cloud9, who themselves are going through a rough period.
