14 Mar Fortnite: FNCS Finalists Disqualified For Harmful Tweet At Donald Mustard
An ill-advised tweet leaves one NA East team on the outside looking in.
The antics of competitive Fortnite Battle Royale players have led to disciplinary actions in the last few months. Epic Games has made a point to enforce rules more strictly than ever before as the competitive scene continues to grow. However, that hasn’t stopped players from making questionable decisions. An unfortunate situation occurred during this season’s Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS), where one player’s despicable tweet has led to his team’s disqualification. This particular Fortnite competitor targeted Epic Games Chief Creative Officer Donald Mustard.

The Tweet
NA East player wrigleyy did himself no favors after the conclusion of FNCS day one. He tweeted, “Like literally f**king k!ll youser$elf @DonaldMustard,” for no apparent reason other than perhaps his frustration with the game. A similar situation involving the same Epic Games employee and professional Fortnite player Cody “Clix” Conrod escalated a few weeks ago, which resulted in him removing the tweet. In this case, Epic showed a zero-tolerance policy, and wrigleyy’s trio suffered.

Wrigleyy’s teammate “Dictating” took to Twitter with an unexpected email from an Epic Games tournament admin.
“We are writing to inform you of your team’s disqualification and removal from the Chapter 2 Season 5 FNCS competition, effectively immediately,” the message read. “Based on an internal investigation a member of your team has violated Section 8.1.2 of the Official Rules.” The rule in question references respectfulness toward players toward Event Administrators, spectators and sponsors. Epic made the determination not long after wrigleyy sent out the now-deleted tweet.

Dictating was understandably upset, considering his trio lost their spot in the FNCS Finals. His team, which was in last place after six matches, still had six more remaining with a chance to improve their position and at least make some money. The punishment, unfortunately, prevented them from playing out the rest of their matches and forced them to surrender any potential earnings. It’s certainly a punch in the gut for Dictating and Userz, who qualified for the Grand Finals in Heat C.

Competitive Fortnite players are not doing themselves any favors with their words or actions. In this case, Epic’s team is well within its rights to throw the rulebook at wrigleyy. Despite their placing after day one, Fortnite is random enough that this squad could have mounted a comeback. That would not come to fruition. Wrigleyy has since deactivated his Twitter account, and his teammates must watch from the sidelines NA East finalists compete for a share of $3M USD. Hopefully, Epic Games will allow teams to substitute in extreme scenarios as this sometime down the line.
