Berlin to host the Rainbow Six Major

Game publisher Ubisoft has confirmed Berlin as the city that will host the upcoming Six Major, Rainbow Six Seige’s latest esports international event.

Originally, the United Arab Emirates was set to receive the Six Major in August, however, Ubisoft changed plans due to backlash from the community.

This is the first time Germany will host a Six Major. However, the country did conclude Rainbow Six Seige Pro League seasons in 2016 and 2017.

Set to commence on August 15th-21st, Six Berlin Major will take place at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz in front of a live audience. The competition features teams qualified from Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America regional leagues.

Ubisoft also revealed that a special Jackal bundle will be available to purchase within the title’s in-game story. According to the announcement, 20% of the revenue from the bundle will contribute to the competition’s prize pool.

This is not the first time the publisher has relocated the competition. Europe received a Six Major in November 2021 when the COVID-19 pandemic made Ubisoft change plans. Originally the event was set to be hosted in Asia, however, the Swedish city of Gävle became the location for that Six Major.

After the event in Gävle, the May 2022 Six Major was held in Charlotte, U.S.

Another international event scheduled for Berlin this year is Riot Games’ VALORANT Game Changers Championship. The competition is set to take place in November this year.

Alongside the relocation, the Rainbow Six esports ecosystem also underwent a noteworthy change last month. Rainbow Six Seige Esports announced a new tournament licensing platform to help cater to local scenes and to work with third-party tournament organisers.
