ESPORTSU unveils Collegiate Esports Commissioner’s Cup event in Atlanta

ESPORTSU, a collegiate esports brand owned by Collegiate Sports Management Group (CSMG), has unveiled details for its inaugural Collegiate Esports Commissioner’s Cup (CECC) event.

Taking place from May 6th-8th at the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, the event will see 64 teams compete across multiple titles including Overwatch and Rocket League. In addition to the tournaments., CECC 2022 will feature a career fair and networking opportunities

According to a release, CECC will be the ‘largest collegiate esports event ever’. Partners of the event include the Atlanta Hawks NBA team, Skillshot Media, the Atlanta Esports Alliance and Call of Duty League franchise Atlanta FaZe.

CECC 2022 will host competitions in Overwatch (Overwatch Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup), Rocket League, NBA 2K, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and VALORANT. A career fair, professional networking opportunities, a Cosplay Costume Contest and live music will also occur at the event. 

Angela Bernhard Thomas, EVP of ESPORTSU at CSMG, spoke about the event: “CECC is dedicated solely to the development of collegiate esports and student-athletes, which we believe are the workforce and talent of the future.

“We will put students centre stage to not only showcase their competitive skills, but through alliances and partnerships with other industry leaders, create an electric festival atmosphere to celebrate them and all things gaming and esports.”

Students on two and four-year courses are eligible to qualify through regional invitational tournaments. In addition, coverage of the CECC will be broadcast on ESPORTSU’s Twitch channel and linear esports channel ESTV.

Todd Harris, CEO of Skillshot Media and Chair of the Atlanta Esports Alliance, also commented: “We are thrilled to work with ESPORTSU to bring the premier collegiate esports event to Atlanta. Esports Insider says: Collegiate esports in North America continues to grow as more parties enter the space. The Collegiate Esports Commissioner’s Cup has the potential to become a successful venture, especially if the event continues to gain backing from prominent partners.
