OpTic Returns To Halo Under Team Envy Banner, Annnounces Complete Roster

OpTic returns to competitive Halo for the first time since 2018 with an impressive roster.

Popular esports organization OpTic Gaming has announced its return to the competitive Halo scene for the upcoming Halo Championship Series (HCS) season. It’s been quite some time since OpTic last appeared in Halo, and they’ve returned at the right time.

The season kicks off next month in Raleigh and will feature all nine partnered esports teams in the first LAN event of Halo Infinite. OpTic has announced its roster under the Team Envy banner, with the newest game available to play worldwide.

Mere moments after 343 Industries released Halo Infinite multiplayer to the world, OpTic Gaming capitalized on the opportunity. The organization’s Twitter account posted a tweet featuring Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez welcoming OpTic’s roster for the Halo Infinite season. Despite Team Envy enrolling in the HCS before the season, its recent merger with OpTic allowed the Green Wall to return to Halo after leaving in 2018.

The revived squad features legends from the year’s past and some bright talents, which will look to go toe-to-toe with others hoping to establish dominance early in the season. Let’s take a look at the complete OpTic Halo roster from top to bottom.

Justin “iGotUrPistola” Deese

Anyone familiar with competitive Halo should know the name iGotUrPistola. Commonly referred to as just Pistola, this Halo veteran burst onto the scene as a free-for-all player in Halo 2 before transitioning to team play during the Halo 3 MLG Pro Circuit season back in the late 2000s. He’s been on teams such as Triggers Down, Final Boss, Instinct, Cloud9 and Envy over the last 14 years. His career accolades include many tournament victories, a second in the 2017 Halo World Championship and third in the 2018 Halo World Championship.

Bradley “aPG” Laws

The second member of OpTic Halo is aPG—another veteran in the scene. This player has been competing since Halo 2 back in 2006 but became a known player in Halo 3 and proceeded to win multiple tournaments in each next game. He holds a top-five finish in the last two Halo World Championship events and has dominated grassroots tournaments of late in Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo 3.

Tommy “Lucid” Wilson

Lucid began competing on the Halo Circuit in 2016 during the Halo 5: Guardians season. He once went by the alias Saiyan before switching to Lucid for Halo Infinite. Lucid had teamed with Pistol and TriPPPey on Envy back in 2018 when they finished third at the Halo World Championship. He’s performed well in all recent Halo games, which should bode well this season.

Joey “TriPPPeY” Taylor

TriPPPey rounds out this roster as perhaps the most exciting talent of the bunch. Like Lucid, TriPPPey is part of the new wave of Halo talents. He got his start in Halo 5: Guardians, finding success with Pistola and Lucid in various tournaments. TriPPPey has also shown his ability in classic games such as Halo Reach and Halo 3. There’s a lot to like about this player and Halo Infinite could be his time to shine against some other outstanding talents.

Jason “Lunchbox” Brown

Halo legend Lunchbox returns to Halo not as a player but as a coach. He made the tough decision to step away from competing back in 2019. Lunchbox has a mind for the game of Halo that he has proven time and time again since 2007. He’ll look to bring his knowledge to the table for OpTic Halo in their quest for victory in Halo Infinite.

Three of the four OpTic members above made the list of HCS’ Top 25 Halo Players of All Time. That shows you the caliber of talent present on this team heading into the first significant LAN of the season.
