26 Oct University of York and Promod Esports launch new esports production studio
The University of York and esports production company Promod Esports have teamed up to launch a new esports production studio.
According to the release, the project is the UK’s first university-led esports production studio. The university’s ‘3Sixty’ room has been transformed into a research and development space, teaching facility, and commercial studio for esports production.

The new studio will be operated jointly by the University and Promod Esports. Promod will facilitate commissions with industry partners to utilise the studio, which will also offer paid internships and work opportunities.
Professor John Mateer from the Department of Theatre, Film, Television and Interactive Media at the University of York commented: “Our partnership with Promod has transformed the 3Sixty into a truly unique media studio that boosts the university’s existing strength in digital creativity research and teaching.
“With the flexibility to span diverse application areas, the studio is an example of how academic-industry partnerships can drive technological innovation and facilitate a broad portfolio of usages.”
The studio is outfitted with more than £250,000 worth of lighting and equipment and is tailored to produce an array of digital productions. Instrumental to this is the green screen virtual studio space with AI-driven tools.

It’s also great to hear that students from the University of York will be able to use it. As well as teaching production using real-world situations, Promod Esports will also host a number of events in the studio, which will also help students get a feel of the esports industry as a whole.
