Guild Esports appoints Edgar Chekera as first Performance Manager

UK-based esports organisation Guild Esports has appointed Edgar Chekera, formerly of City Football Group, as its first Performance Manager.

In his new role, Chekera will work with Guild’s players across a number of fields. This includes one-on-one sports psychology work and team sessions.

Chekera is an experienced professional with almost a decade of experience in the field of sports psychology.  He has worked for a series of known organisations associated with the esports industry including Fnatic, EXCEL, and Hashtag United among others. Most recently Chekera was a Mental Performance Coach for City Football Group.

Currently, Chekera is a guest lecturer at Birmingham City University, Chichester University, and Winchester University.

Grant Rousseau, Director of Esports at Guild, commented: “Edgar is a hugely exciting addition to the Guild organisation and he joins us at the very forefront of his field in Esports Performance Management. Having worked with Manchester City, Fnatic and Excel Esports to name just a few in past, Edgar’s history in esports is well known and he has a track record of trophies and results in this sector.

“We can’t wait for him to get started with our teams and continue to help us build and improve our exciting roster of talent.”

Alongside working with the team’s players on mental training, Chekera will also lead the organisation’s contract department to ‘push forward their physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, nutrition and mental wellbeing’. According to the release, Chekera’s work will look to affect the performance philosophy of the entire organisation.

Esports Insider says: Every top team needs a top mental and psychology coach. Chekera is a seasoned professional with a proven track record and he will undoubtedly help improve the performance of Guild’s teams.
