07 Oct LoL: DFM Makes History By Claiming A Spot In Worlds 2021 Main Stage
The Japanese region will finally see its representatives in the main Worlds competition.
After an incredible tiebreaker match against Cloud9 in Day Three of the Play-in Group Stage, DetonatioN FocusMe has claimed a spot in the Worlds 2021 Main Stage. This is a truly monumental moment for the team and region. First of all, this is the first time a Japanese team has ever made it through the Play-in to the Main Stage. It’s even sweeter that it’s largely these players that have slowly been developing into this team that can stand up internationally.
Though there were questions about how truly good they were before the start of the tournament, DetonatioN FocusMe started off their Play-ins run off strong with a dominant win over Unicorns of Love. However, their second match against Cloud9 was an absolute disaster. With a rather bad draft and many in-game mistakes, DFM fell hard to C9. But DetonatioN FocusMe bounced back, defeating Galatasaray Esports and Beyond Gaming fairly convincingly. They managed to get a 3-1 scoreline in Group B, and because Cloud9 dropped their Day Three match against UOL, DFM had their shot at a rematch.
The rematch was an absolutely stellar game of League of Legends, and though both teams had their moments, DetonatioN FocusMe emerged victorious at around 36 minutes. In the minds of many, it was an upset. But this Japanese squad is showing the world why they’re considered a super-team.
Now, DetonatioN FocusMe will have an even bigger task ahead of them. Taking on the truly best teams in the world, like DAMWON KIA, FunPlus Pheonix and RNG. It will be a tough road forward but with what this team has shown, they’re ready for anything.
