Fortnite: Machester City Esports Signs NA East Pro Threats

European football club Manchester City has secured its first professional Fortnite Battle Royale player.

Back in June, Manchester City launched a search to sign its first Fortnite Battle Royale player. Prospects up to the task had to navigate through a process that could end with an esports contract. Dubbed the City Solos Hunt, the campaign required players to submit a video explaining why they should be the next member of Manchester City Esports.

The City Solos Hunt went dark for the last few months as the organization narrowed its selections. Waiting on the other side was not a player native to Europe but a promising North American pro with immense upside and several achievements to his credit. Sixteen-year-old talent Aidan “Threats” Mong won the City Solos Hunt and can call himself a member of Manchester City.

Three-time Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) Finalist Threats is now a member of Manchester City Esports. The organization released a statement today welcoming the talented North American player to the team. As a result of successfully navigating the City Solos Hunt, Manchester City handed Threats a one-year contract and a trip to the football team’s Etihad Stadium in Manchester, United Kingdom โ€” when restrictions allow.

Threats spoke about his excitement in signing with Manchester City Esports in a statement to the team:

“Being selected as the first ever Fortnite player to sign for Manchester City means everything to me. Like most Fortnite players, I dreamed of joining a team, but I never could have imagined being part of an organisation like City. I am ready to represent Man City Esports and continue their winning tradition in the competitive Fortnite scene. Let’s go!”

It’s a massive step in the career of a promising talent in the Fortnite scene. Threats broke through in competitive Fortnite alongside former teammates Dukez and Ryan “Chap” Chaplo, where the three finished 32nd in FNCS Chapter 2 – Season 5. Since then, he’s found success in trios with various teammates, including Jamper and Rise. Threats placed fifth in FNCS Chapter 2 – Season 6 with those two players and is preparing for another Axe of Champions run in Season 8.

Signing with Manchester City means global exposure for a player with upside in Fortnite’s niche competitive scene. He’ll look to make the best of his time with the organization, which hopefully translates to a major championship and growth for his Twitch channel.

We’ll have to see what more materializes with Manchester City from a Fortnite perspective and Threats as he looks to expand his competitive Fortnite resume.
