Poko Enters Overwatch League Free Agency

Like peanut butter and jelly.

Poko, Carpe, Eqo. These are three names that are synonymous with the Philadelphia Fusion. It’s difficult to imagine the team without those three guys, but it’s what we’ll have to live with. Gael “Poko” Gouzerch will be moving on to hopefully “lead a team to victory next season”. A common guess for the French Off-Tank would be the Paris Eternal, where many European players have gone to settle their careers down into retirement or Contenders demotion. This being said, Poko seems to be heading into the 2022 season with his head held high, and his mind is set on an Overwatch League Championship.

What is more interesting to ponder is why the Fusion didn’t look to release Poko earlier in the season. Seeing as he was stuck in France due to visa issues all year. Why hold onto his contract for a full year only to not re-sign him to the team? This may have been Poko’s idea to not continue with the team next season. Or maybe Poko’s visa situation simply didn’t attract any other teams to pick up his contract. Where we see him next season though, is anybody’s guess at the moment.

Philadelphia’s Tank Line Situation

Just like at the start of the 2021 season, and like Poko’s situation last year, the Fusion finds themselves with only a single Off-Tank player to represent their Tank line. This is of course 2018 and 2021 Fusion Off-Tank Hong-joon “HOTBA” Choi. The difference now is that Overwatch 2 will be played with only a single Tank player, and picking up a Tank duo for the second year in a row like they did with Mano and Poko would be useless since there would be no need for Tank synergy in-game. It is more likely that Philadelphia will be looking to pick up only a single Main Tank to round out their Tank line. Not to mention what other roster changes they may be looking to make.
