TimTheTatman Leaves Twitch, Becomes Latest Exclusive YouTube Streamer

TimTheTatman is the latest content creator to leave Twitch for YouTube Gaming.

Just two days after losing streaming icon Benjamin “DrLupo” Lupo, Twitch has lost another foundational name to YouTube Gaming. Today, Tim “TimTheTatman” Betar revealed that he would join YouTube and leave Twitch in the rear-view mirror. Like Lupo, Betar signed a contract with Twitch back in December 2020.

It seems both deals have come to an end simultaneously. Betar will add himself to a laundry list full of streamers who have defected from Twitch, including Jack “CouRageJD” Dunlop and Rachel “Valkyrae” Hofstetter.

The 31-year-old content creator took to Twitter with the next chapter in his career. Betar brought viewers on a journey through his past in the comedic announcement video before revealing his plan to join YouTube as an exclusive streamer. His new colleague, CouRageJD, appeared in the video to welcome Betar to his new streaming platform.

TimTheTatman rose to prominence during the early days of Fortnite Battle Royale with other significant names like DrLupo, CouRageJD, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Turner “Tfue” Tenney and more. Since those days, Betar has maintained a steady community and an average of around 40K viewers on Twitch. He joined Twitch back in 2012 and accumulated more than seven million followers as of his announcement.

YouTube’s Head of Gaming Ryan “Fwiz” Wyatt tweeted out a warm welcome to TimTheTatman with promises of more on the horizon.

“We’re building the best gaming platform in the world for creators, publishers, & gamers.

Our work isn’t done yet, and in many ways it’s just starting.

Today we take another step in that direction by announcing that @timthetatman is exclusively streaming on @YouTubeGaming!”

Reunion with DrDisrespect

While the terms of his deal aren’t available, Betar’s decision speaks to YouTube’s growth as a streaming platform in their battle against Twitch. Former Twitch streamer Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm is also on YouTube’s payroll after Twitch inexplicably banned him. That means a long-awaited reunion between Betar and Beahm, who often collaborated in the past. It’s worth wondering if perhaps the various controversies surrounding Twitch and Doc’s unexpected exit influenced Betar’s decision.

While Beahm did not welcome Betar to the platform per se, he responded to the announcement and tweeted out a cryptic image of himself with two purple snakes wrapped around his legs.

He often refers to Twitch as the “purple snakes” after orchestrating his ban from the platform and terminating an existing contract. YouTube Gaming is here to stay, and Twitch seems to be floundering as more reputable names leave. We’ll have to see what more is in store for Twitch and YouTube down the line as two outstanding talents leave one website for another.
