DrLupo Leaves Twitch, Signs With YouTube Gaming

DrLupo announces a streaming platform change from Twitch to YouTube Gaming.

Popular video game streamer and content creator Benjamin “DrLupo” Lupo has left Twitch to join YouTube Gaming. The veteran personality and former Fortnite commentator revealed the news earlier today on Twitter. Lupo had been teasing a massive announcement for the last few days. The cryptic posts have led to the latest in a long line of creators exiting the Twitch platform for other opportunities.

Lupo joins other recognizable names such as 100 Thieves streamers and co-owners Jack “CouRageJD” Dunlop and Rachel “Valkyrae” Hofstetter, who accepted lucrative deals from YouTube. After joining Twitch in 2012, Lupo became a fundamental piece in the website’s history.

Lupo took to Twitter today with the news, which included a short video. In the video, the former Twitch streamer explained his comeuppance, mainly how he left a steady job to pursue a career in content creation. Since then, he’s become a legendary figure in Fortnite Battle Royale, where he and Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, CouRageJD and Tim “TimTheTatman” Betar became the original Fortnite squad.

DrLupo has branched off into other games of late and notably re-signed with Twitch in December 2019. He likely rode out the rest of his deal until making the switch to YouTube. The content creator has scheduled his first official YouTube stream for tomorrow, August 31, but has not given his reasoning behind the switch.

Twitch Bids DrLupo Farewell

As a creator, a gamer and a father, you’re many things to many people.

Above all, @DrLupo, you’re someone who works hard to put good into the world.

We wish you nothing but the best in everything that comes next. pic.twitter.com/pkUCoX1dWe

Twitch acknowledged the departure of DrLupo in a tweet shortly after the platform change went public. The short video clip included many of the streamer’s highlights on Twitch dating back to the H1Z1 days, his various impactful charity fundraisers and more. It’s certainly a significant loss for Twitch, which continues to lose foundational content creators slowly.

The terms of Lupo’s deal are not a matter of public record, and that likely won’t change. However, Twitch did sign him to a contract worth millions in 2019, so it’s safe to assume YouTube offered Lupo a lot of money and maybe even more.
