The AESF is the sole esports authority recognised by the Olympic Council of Asia. It’s one of the bodies responsible for esports becoming an official medal sport at the 2021 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Thailand and the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

The GRAC is the official ratings commission in South Korea and is tasked with providing approval of games for local use.

As a result of the MoU, GRAC now becomes a part of a Task Force composed of industry experts and professionals which will ensure ‘fairness, accessibility, legitimacy of contents, and transparency in the selection of esports titles played at all AESF-sanctioned tournaments in the future’.

GRAC Chairperson, Lee Jae Hong, commented: ” We are very excited to be part of this initiative which plays a huge role in ensuring the integrity of esports at future competitions.

“Alongside our counterparts at the AESF, I look forward to a fruitful collaboration which will, in the long term, pave the road for esports in being recognized on-par with other traditional sports on the biggest sporting stage.”

Esports Insider says: Title selection is crucial when the AESF is trying to push esports into the traditional sporting world. As a result, partnering with GRAC should help ensure that the correct games are chosen and that the titles not only highlight esports but relate to future sporting events that will feature competitive gaming.
