Mercedes-AMG Petronas strikes partnership with AMD

Mercedes-owned Formula One team Mercedes-AMG Petronas has announced a partnership with American multinational semiconductor company AMD.

The deal will see AMD equip the organisation with its products—mainly graphics cards and desktop processors—as well as other hardware and software that has been ‘optimized’ for gaming.

Moreover, AMD will contribute gaming systems to Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports Training Facility in Brackley, UK, which is expected to be revealed later this year.

John Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer at AMD, commented: “AMD is committed to pushing the boundaries of technology to provide the best possible gaming experiences. The Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports Team share our passion for extreme gaming performance, and we are delighted to provide their professional drivers with the latest high-performance AMD Radeon and Ryzen technologies that deliver high framerates, low latency, and the smoothest gaming experiences when it matters most.”

According to a release, the goal of the partnership is to ‘empower the team with championship-level computing technologies and performance for competitive virtual racing.’

Mercedes-AMG Petronas plans to implement its new AMD-powered racing rigs this spring and use them in this season’s competition.

James Vowles, Motorsport Strategy Director, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, stated: “In the world of competitive esports, milliseconds can define whether you win, or not, like on track. It is crucial to have the very best gaming platform providing the highest framerates, at the lowest latency, without compromising on reliability.

“The latest AMD-powered gaming platforms will form the foundations to fight for race wins in the virtual world, ensuring that every detail from the virtual world is fed back to our drivers as quickly as possible, and without compromise.”

The collaboration builds upon an existing, multi-year partnership between AMD and Mercedes-AMG Petronas, that began in 2020 with a goal to accelerate the team, both on and off the racetrack.

Esports Insider says: This a distinguished partnership for both sides. With all the high-end gaming equipment, Mercedes-AMG Petronas is seemingly gearing up for a big season. Just in real-life racing or traditional sports, the quality of one’s performance gear is crucial to performance.
