VALORANT Player Sinatraa Suspended for Six Months by Riot After Investigation

Riot issues a six-month suspension to Jay “Sinatraa” Won following investigation of sexual assault claims presented by former girlfriend; Cleo Hernandez.

Riot released a statement earlier today with the verdict against former Sentinels player stating that he violated Rule 8.1 of VALORANT Global Competition Policy; “failing to fully cooperate with the Tournament Operator’s investigation”. Sinatraa’s six-month competitive suspension prevents him from competing in any professional VALORANT matches. Riot’s statement does not give a definitive verdict on whether or not Sinatraa is guilty of the claims raised by Hernandez. Rather, their decision was based on Won’s own actions.

Before diving deep into the reasoning behind Riot’s verdict, let’s break down everything that has happened so far.

Two months ago, Cleo “Cle0h” made a TwitLonger detailing some of the traumatic experiences she had while dating the former Overwatch League and VALORANT player. VALORANT’s esports department, Sentinels, and Sinatraa were quick to post their own responses. But Won claimed he would be “…fully cooperating with the investigations and providing the full audio and video clips Cleo referenced in her post”.

According to Riot’s release, this was not the case.

Serious concerns with Sinatraa’s conduct

Riot issued the following statement detailing Sinatraa’s failure to cooperate with the investigation;

While the investigation did not come to a definitive conclusion on the underlying allegations, the Competitive Operations team had serious concerns with Sinatraa’s conduct during the course of the investigation. It was determined that on at least two occasions Sinatraa misrepresented certain facts, made false statements, and did not cooperate with the investigation in a way expected of a professional VALORANT esports player. Of note, Sinatraa’s public commitment on social media to provide the full audio and video clip referenced in the original post was never fulfilled. Cooperation in these investigations is of the utmost importance, especially when the nature of the allegations is as serious as sexual assault. This behavior will not be tolerated by VALORANT Esports. Riot Games

Won himself has responded to Riot’s statement. But the lack of support that Riot received from Sinatraa in the investigation is troublesome. They’ve since announced they’ll be stepping back, and allowing law enforcement and the relevant authorities to continue the investigation; with all of its nuances.

In addition to the six-month suspension, Won is required to complete professional conduct training before he can step foot back on stage.
