An anime-themed Dota 2 Major?

WePlay has announced that it will host AniMajor, the second Dota 2 Major in Kyiv, Ukraine. The tournament will run from June 2-13 and will feature a prize pool of  $500,000 USD.

The Major will host top eighteen teams from around the globe. Who’ll then compete against each other for the prize pool as well as 2,700 Dota Pro Circuit points.

WePlay weren’t shy about advertising the Major’s anime theme either. According to their announcement: “Becoming Hokage is the dream of many shinobi, so our goal is to become the most-watched tournament in the history of Dota 2 Majors.”

Teams and Format

The tournament will comprise four teams each from Western Europe and China. As well as three teams each from Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe and lastly, two teams each from North and South America. The Wild Card consists of six teams on a single round-robin format with matches being Best of 2. Only the top two teams will advance to the group stage, with others getting eliminated.

The Group Stage will comprise eight teams with a similar format to that of Wild Card. The top two teams will advance to the upper bracket playoffs and third to sixth-placed teams will compete in the lower bracket. Similar to other Majors, the playoffs will have Best of 3 matches and the Grand Final will feature Best of 5.

There are a handful of teams who have qualified for the Major as of now. These include Alliance, Virtus.pro, Team Spirit. With a week left in the conclusion of DPC Season 2, the WePlay AniMajor is the best opportunity for teams to rack up DPC points to get into the top 12 of Dota Pro Circuit rating.
