20 Apr OWL 2021 Power Rankings – #6 Hangzhou Spark
The Hangzhou Spark are coming in at 6th place for our Overwatch League 2021 season power rankings.
The 2019 season of the Overwatch League was unarguably one of the most exciting seasons we have had to date. GOATS caused an uproar and shifted the balance of Overwatch, expansion teams shook up the standings, and Hangzhou rode the wave with grace. The Hangzhou Spark had an impressive showing in their first season, but going into 2020, they were unable to find the same success. A major part of Hangzhou’s lackluster rankings from 2020 was their inability to face North American teams. In the May Melee and Summer Showdown, the Hangzhou Spark were sent home in the Quarterfinals. Let’s hope that this year’s scheduling is more favorable to their sleeper of a roster.
Hangzhou Spark 2021 Roster Preview
Tank
- Xu “guxue” Qiulin
- Se-won “BERNAR” Shin
- Jia “LiGe” Chengjie
You can’t overlook the importance of guxue in this roster as a long-standing main tank. The veteran tank has competed in Contenders, the Overwatch League, and the World Cup, but as the Spark pickup hidden talent, guxue will be the one to lead them. Bernar is joining the team from the London Spitfire but had a more noticeable performance in Contenders. His time with the Fusion University was a period in Overwatch of uncontested dominance, unlike anything we’ve seen.

Support
- Ho-jin “iDK” Park
- Tong “ColdesT” Xiaodong
- Liu “M1ka” Jiming
- Jeong-ho “MCD” Lee
The Hangzhou Spark’s support lineup contains another veteran who has been with the team from the very beginning. While iDK has less of a leadership role within the Hangzhou Spark, but instead is valued for his consistency. Fresh to the Overwatch League, flex support Lee “MCD” Jeong-ho is unknown despite his stellar performances on Element Mystic. The support and DPS lineup for the Hangzhou Spark are huge and they only have one slot left before their roster is maxed out. There is an emphasis on flexibility when it comes to Support players.

DPS
- Minho “Architect” Park
- Zheng “Shy” Yangjie
- Kyeong-bo “GodsB” Kim
- Min-soo “SeoMinSoo” Seo
Sometimes you just need impactful damage players who can adapt to the competition week to week. For the Hangzhou Spark to be successful this season, their DPS lineup will need to come up big against some of the best in the League. The pure potential of this roster comes from their damage players, primarily SeoMinSoo and GodsB. The Spark picked up SeoMinSoo from the Vancouver Titans and when it comes to versatility, he is as good as it gets. Not only did he dominate for almost an entire season on an off-tank position, but he switched back to DPS like it was nothing in a month.
