13 Apr Hi-Rez Studios launches Creativity Unchained remote work policy
Atlanta-based game publisher Hi-Rez Studios has revealed Creativity Unchained, a programme that allows its employees in the USA and UK to work remotely.
The new remote work policy encourages over 80 percent of Hi-Rez Studios employees to work where they feel most productive. According to the release, plans are already being made to expand the programme across Europe.

The programme extends to existing Hi-Rez Studios employees, as well as to new job openings. Most jobs will allow fully flexible work options, letting most employees decide their work location and the combination of office and remote hours.
Stewart Chisam, CEO of Hi-Rez Studios, spoke on the announcement: “The pandemic has taught us new ways to work, which we believe are superior to our previous ways of operation. This is a talent-based business, and we want to meet the best talent where they are, as we build a culture of freedom and responsibility for our creative staff so that we can achieve victory together.”
Hi-Rez Studios is largely known as the developer behind SMITE, with its portfolio also including titles such as Paladins and Rogue Company.

The developer aims to formalise its proprietary work processes developed during the pandemic, which allegedly led to a surge in both employee satisfaction and company revenues.
“We want to offer employees a great balance between work and life, while also offering the best opportunities to create great games with amazing people, sharing their creative work with tens of millions of players across the globe,” continued Chisam. “Our games are global, and we should be as well.”
Hi-Rez Studios will retain its main US office in Alpharetta, Georgia and its UK office in Brighton, England, for employees who prefer to work in an office setting. Both offices will be modified for the company’s revamped work approach, focusing on employee and team flexibility.
Esports Insider says: Following the example of big companies from other sectors, it was only a matter of time before the gaming industry started changing its approach towards remote work. Such a concept comes naturally for the gaming and esports sectors, therefore we might see more businesses joining the wave, especially as the global trend of reducing the office footprint continues to rise.
