13 Apr CS:GO: RpK To Play Last Tournament With Vitality
The BLAST Premier 2021 will be Cédric “RpK” Guipouy’s last time playing for Vitality.
The squad has made a tough decision. Especially considering RpK had helped bring Vitality to seven first-place finishes since becoming part of their very first CS:GO roster back in October 2018.
Vitality has been struggling since the beginning of the year. They were eliminated in the Intel Extreme Masters 2021 — first by Team Liquid in the second round of Upper Bracket competitions. Then by Virtus.pro in the same round in the lower bracket. Vitality had also failed to move forward from Group B in the ESL Pro League 13 as they had finished fourth in the group.
Quoniam has only good things to say about RpK in the team’s announcement. But he still indicated that the team needs to make a change. “Cédric is an example as an achiever, consistent and inspiring player. The team is facing some difficulties and we need to find a new pace.”
Jayson “Kyojin” Nguyen Van will take RpK’s place in Vitality’s starting roster after the BLAST Premier.
Vitality will face the Argentine squad 9z in the first round of the Spring Showdown 2021 which begins play on April 13, 2021. It’s still unclear where RpK will head after this, “I’ll take some time off and think about what I’ll be doing in the future,” the 31-year old commented on his Twitter page. Some fans presume that he could go into coaching or some similar role.
RpK had gone out of retirement in 2014 and joined Titan, G2 Esports and Envy before hooking up with Vitality.
