Toronto Ultra Wins Call of Duty League Stage 2 Major

Toronto shocks the CDL, winning the Stage 2 Major.

Stage 2 of the 2021 Call of Duty League season has been incredible. With some insanely good matches, we’ve seen dominant 3-0’s, reverse sweeps and underdogs make their mark. However, it was underdogs Toronto Ultra who took home the Major, becoming the first European roster to win a Major since Splyce in 2017.

Toronto Ultra’s Road to Victory

Toronto Ultra began their Major run in Winners Round 1. Here, they took down OpTic Chicago and gave us a glimpse of their sheer quality heading into this tournament. However, they fell to the Loser’s Bracket shortly after to the hands of Atlanta FaZe. The 3-1 scoreline was promising however, as their dominant SnD win gave them great momentum heading into the later series.

In their next match against LA Thieves, Toronto came out swinging. A quick and dominant 3-0 saw them secure their spot in Losers Semi’s, and secure T4 in Major 2. On Championship Sunday, Ultra turned up. After losing Map One, they bounced back to defeat Minnesota ROKKR 3-1, and moved into Loser’s Finals.

Momentum was the name of the game for Toronto today. They took down Dallas Empire, yet again losing Map One but winning Two, Three and Four. Taking on Atlanta FaZe was never going to be easy. After only losing one game this year, FaZe looked almost unbeatable. However, their SnD weakness was exploited by Ultra, and specifically Bance.

Ultra’s 5-3 win came after winning two SnDs, two Controls and a Checkmate Hardpoint to finish it off. This win sees a full European roster win a Major for just the second time, and the first since Splyce in 2017.
