Paris Eternal 2021 Roster Preview
Kyoung Ey “AVALLA” Kim, promoted from Assistant Manager to General Manager, built a European team for the Overwatch League 2021 Season. The Paris Eternal is now home to seven players, from seven different countries. From Overwatch League familiar faces to newcomers, here is the entire Paris Eternal 2021 roster.
Tank:
- Elliot “ELLIVOTE” Vaneryd
- Daniël “Daan” Vincentius Paulus Scheltema
Elliot “ELLIVOTE” Vaneryd played with the Washington Justice during the Overwatch League 2019 Season. Despite his team’s poor results, the player got noticed for his D.Va and Sigma skills. In June, the player decided to take a break until the end of the year, to start fresh in 2021. His bet was successful, as he is back in the Overwatch League with Paris Eternal.
Daniël “Daan” Vincentius Paulus Scheltema is a new face in the Overwatch League, but not in the Contenders. He played with various teams over the past years, such as the Atlanta Reign academy team and Young and Beautiful. The main tank can count on his teammate ELLIVOTE to share his experience in the League and, hopefully, form a cohesive duo.
Support:
- Alberto “neptuNo” González
- Emir “Kaan” Okumus
Alberto “neptuNo” González is another popular Overwatch League player joining the Paris Eternal this season. The main support played two years with the Philadelphia Fusion, before joining the Guangzhou Charge in 2020. With both teams, he had good results, finishing second in the Overwatch League Inaugural Season Playoffs and winner the Overwatch League 2020 Summer Showdown.
Emir “Kaan” Okumus is new to the Overwatch League. He played in the Overwatch Contenders with several teams and snatched several podiums with Obey Alliance. The team placed second in the Overwatch Contenders 2020: The Gauntlet: Europe, losing to London Spitfire’s academy team British Hurricane.
DPS:
- Nikolai “Naga” Dereli
- Stefan “Onigod” Fiskerstrand
- Samir “Tsuna” Ikram
Nikolai “Naga” Dereli is a DPS player that performs well with heroes everyone hates to fight, like Mei or Genji. He played with various teams in the Overwatch Contenders and represented Denmark during the Overwatch World Cup 2018 and 2019. Naga also won the Contenders 2020 EU Season 2 November and placed second in the Overwatch Contenders 2020: The Gauntlet: Europe.
Stefan “Onigod” Fiskerstrand made a quick appearance in the League this Summer. He joined the Dallas Fuel mid-season and left as the team went all-Korean. Even though he showed his hitscan skills with the Fuel, Onigod is mostly known for his Overwatch Contenders performance. He won the Overwatch Contenders 2019 Season 1: Europe with Angry Titans and its 2020 equivalent in North America.
Samir “Tsuna” Ikram is the only French player on this new Paris Eternal 2021 roster. He made his first steps on the Overwatch League last year, joining the Vancouver Titans mid-season. However, he did not have the opportunity to show his worth as he did in Overwatch Contenders, warming the bench most games with the Vancouver Titans.
Paris Eternal 2021 Coaching Staff
The new Head Coach of Paris Eternal for the Overwatch League 2021 Season is Zouheir “GetAmazed” Baba. Like most coaches, GetAmazed began as a player. He won the Overwatch Contenders 2018 Season 2: Europe with Eagle Gaming, playing off-tank heroes. Then, he began coaching in 2019, and helped Third Impact place second in the Overwatch Contenders 2020 NA Season 2 September. He struggled more with his next team, Drifters, which failed on the first round of the Contenders Gauntlet tournament. GetAmazed joined the Paris Eternal as a Head Coach last December, right after all the players’ signings.
The latest Assistant Coach of Paris Eternal is Dae-han “JMAC” Choi, former tank player of the London Spitfire. As a player, JMAC never popped in the Overwatch League, despite winning the Overwatch Contenders 2019 Season 2: China. He joined the London Spitfire as the team just released its Overwatch League Champion roster. The team placed 7th in the Overwatch League, failing to qualify for the Asia Playoffs in the first round.
Following this mixed results as a player, JMAC turned to coaching. He helped DarkMode NA placed third in the Overwatch Contenders 2020. JMAC got the same result as an Assistant Coach for the Paris Eternal during the SteelSeries Invitational.
Conclusion
Communication may be an issue with this new Paris Eternal. The Head Coach is French, his Assistant Coach South Korean, and all players come from different countries. Of course, English is a standard in the League. But these cultural and linguistic differences broaden the gap between members who never worked together.
The pairing of seasoned Overwatch League players with newcomers from the Contenders seems like a good idea. But as we have seen many times in the League, that may not be enough against stronger teams like the Seoul Dynasty or the San Francisco Shock.
The success of Paris Eternal in the Overwatch League 2021 Season depends on how fast they can build a team spirit. Cohesion is key to anticipate teammates’ actions that can make or break a game.
Because of the lack of existing cohesion within the team and the required time for players to find their rhythm, the Paris Eternal is in the 19th position of our Overwatch League 2021 Power Rankings.
