E3 Announce Their Return In 2021 With Virtual Showcase

E3 returns in a digital format this June, with Nintendo, Ubisoft, Xbox and Capcom all confirmed to participate.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) have officially unveiled their re-imagined E3 event for 2021.

E3 was one of the many conventions wiped off the calendar in 2020 thanks to the global pandemic. At the time there were plenty who feared this spelled the end for E3.

But the new year is here, and it’s looking like its “Game On” for E3 yet again.

This year’s all-virtual event is set to engage fans with a new digital format, allowing developers to share new trailers and other tidbits directly to their fans. According to ESA they’re already working with media partners globally to help make the convention content freely available to everyone.

Early commitments already confirmed

And there’s already been some big names committing to the showcase early. With Nintendo, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Xbox, Take-Two Interactive, Koch Media and Warner Bros. Games all signing up to appear at the virtual event. Of course, there’s bound to be more announcements from attending developers as the date draws nearer.

“For more than two decades, E3 has been the premier venue to showcase the best that the video game industry has to offer, while uniting the world through games,” said Stanley Pierre-Louis, President & CEO of the ESA. “We are evolving this year’s E3 into a more inclusive event, but will still look to excite the fans with major reveals and insider opportunities that make this event the indispensable center stage for video games.”

Evidently they’re not planning for E3 to stay online forever. ESA closed the announcement with a message; they’re looking forward “to coming back together to celebrate E3 2022 in person.”

Which is some extra news we can all look forward to.

The E3 2021 Virtual Showcase will take place from June 12 through June 15. For more information about how you can attend, check out the E3 website.
