18 Mar League Of Legends: Wild Rift Becomes Part Of ESL UK
ESL UK will add its very first mobile gaming title to its list of tournaments.
The one-off tournament will take place online and will be called ESL Wild Rift Premiership. Open qualifiers will take place on April 3-4 and will determine the eight teams that will be playing in the tournament. Teams from the UK, Ireland and the Nordics are invited to take part.
After qualifying, the eight teams will play in a round-robin group stage followed by playoffs and finals. A £5,000 prize pool will be up for grabs in the tourney.
Aside from being the first mobile title, this will also be the first time that teams from the UK and Ireland will be playing alongside teams from the Scandinavian region. This tournament aims to open up the Western market to mobile gaming. The Western market has yet to capitalize on this large area of the esports industry.
Dan Ellis, Partnerships Director at ESL UK, stated, “It’s a historic moment to bring a mobile title to the ESL Premiership. Wild Rift is the perfect game to deliver this never-seen-before experience to the UK, Ireland and Nordics.”
Wild Rift joins Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as the second title under ESL Premiership.
