The eight teams competing in the tournament will be determined by open qualifiers which will take place on April 3rd and 4th. Once confirmed, the teams will compete in a round-robin group stage followed by the playoffs and finals where £5,000 in prize money will be up for grabs.

According to the release, the ESL Wild Rift Premiership will take place online.

Dan Ellis, Partnerships Director at ESL UK, commented on the news in a release: “It’s a historic moment to bring a mobile title to the ESL Premiership. Wild Rift is the perfect game to deliver this never-seen-before experience to the UK, Ireland and Nordics.”

As Ellis alluded to, Wild Rift is the first-ever mobile title to be included as part of the ESL Premiership and will join Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) as the second title under the banner. Additionally, this is the first time that UK and Ireland participants will compete in the ESL Premiership alongside Nordic Teams.

Esports Insider says: Mobile gaming is a large area of the esports industry that has yet to be capitalised on by Western markets. ESL UK bringing Wild Rift to UK and Scandanavian players is a significant milestone and could prove to be the catalyst for growth in the region.
