09 Mar CDL 2021 Power Rankings After Major 1
Here are our updated Power Rankings following the first Major of the season
12. London Royal Ravens (-)
The London Royal Ravens have been hit with a series of unfortunate events so far in the 2021 season. The latest comes with Alexx having to go home due to family reasons, and Zed stepping in for the Major. While they took Toronto to a game five, they went out in Losers Round 1 and are currently 0-6, therefore they stay bottom of our Power Rankings.
11. Seattle Surge (-)
Seattle Surge also crashed out in Losers Round 1 at the Major, leaving them 11th in our Power Rankings. Their defeat to the Florida Mutineers was dominant, and they looked completely off the pace. Seattle will need to make a big comeback in Stage 2.
10. Paris Legion (-3)
Paris Legion, unfortunately, fell 3-2 to Florida in Losers Round 2, however, they have looked promising. We can’t expect much from this roster, though they have shown that they have the talent. Fire and Skrapz have been the main factors in this team, and they have taken over games at times. Paris looks like a dark horse for Stage 2.
9. Toronto Ultra (-)
Toronto Ultra cut it fine in the Major, with two 3-2 victories against London and Minnesota. While they eventually fell 3-0 to the LA Thieves, this was a strong run from Toronto and proves that they can challenge with the top teams. If they can refine their gameplay, they could be a top-six side by the end of Stage 2.
8. Florida Mutineers (+2)
The Florida Mutineers seemed to turn around their poor start to the year with two wins over Seattle Surge and Paris Legion. While they were reverse swept by New York in Losers Round 3, Florida has definitely improved and will be dangerous in Stage 2. One thing that Florida needs to work on is their SnD. Owakening constantly wins First Bloods, but the Mutineers can’t win their advantages, but if they improve this they’ll be an all-around strong team.
7. Los Angeles Guerrillas (+1)
The Los Angeles Guerrillas surprised the whole of the competitive Call of Duty community with their 3-0 win over their local rivals, LA Thieves. The Guerrillas play fundamentally perfect Call of Duty, and this is how they win games. Their general gameplay is fantastic, even if they don’t have as much talent as other rosters. With this, the Guerrillas could definitely cement themselves as a top eight roster, and get that spot for Champs at the end of the season.
6. Minnesota Rokkr (-)
Minnesota Rokkr fell 3-2 to Toronto Ultra, but they still sit in the top six of our Power Rankings. This is because they are an extremely good SnD team, and just need to brush up on their Hardpoint. If Minnesota can improve in Hardpoint, they’ll challenge for top four.
5. LA Thieves (-)
The Los Angeles Thieves are a weird spot, the same as Minnesota. They’re on the cusp of top eight and top six. While they give the bottom half of the league a great challenge and sometimes dominate them. The top half still seems like a reach, and they can’t get past them. The Thieves will need to improve on their composure, as they nearly threw two 5-2 leads in Search and Destroy. This is their goal for Stage 2.
4. New York Subliners (-)
The New York Subliners look exceptional given the challenges they’ve had to overcome this season. Clayster has been dominating, and while he revealed how hard it has been to play well and be a leader for this young roster, he is doing an incredible job. They placed top-three at the Major, and this is a victory for the team. They look great all around, and there’s really nothing they need to improve on for Stage 2.
3. OpTic Chicago (-)
OpTic Chicago placed 4th at the Major following a 3-0 defeat to New York in Losers Semi-Finals. While this may have been due to the scheduling of the tournament, OpTic looked shaky, and couldn’t handle the speed of the Subliners. However, OpTic look great in Control, and all around, so this may have just been a lapse of concentration for Chicago.
2. Dallas Empire (-)
Dallas Empire is yet again battling with Atlanta FaZe at the top of the League. They suffered a 3-0 and 5-2 defeat to FaZe, and while they look far ahead of the rest of the league, they look miles behind FaZe. Dallas didn’t make any errors, FaZe was just too good.
1. Atlanta FaZe (-)
Atlanta FaZe sits top of the League and top of our Power Rankings. Following their dominant 5-2 victory in the Major, FaZe look a long way ahead of the rest of the League, especially in Search and Destroy. Their 11-1 SnD record is exceptional, and their incredible 8-0 run is mindblowing. FaZe will look to continue this in Stage 2 and to go back to back in Majors.
