Ubisoft renews PayPal partnership with Rainbow Six Esports

French game developer Ubisoft has renewed its partnership with online payment processor PayPal through to September 2022, the company announced on Thursday.

The agreement will name PayPal as the official payment platform for multiple competitions across the Rainbow Six Esports circuit.

Some of the competitions featured in the deal include both the European and North American leagues, along with their respective regional Finals, the May and August Six Majors, and the Six Invitationals. The collaboration will additionally cover the Rainbow Six World Cup, which Ubisoft revealed in September 2020.

Geoffroy Sardin, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing at Ubisoft commented on the partnership in a release: “We are happy to welcome back PayPal as a key partner to accompany us as we keep on growing our Rainbow Six Esports scene. PayPal highly contributed to the success of our previous esports leagues and events, and we’re confident they will continue offering the great experiences and content we envision for our community.

“We are excited to kick off our collaboration with the European League Finals and North American League Finals this January and to unveil the full extent of the partnership over the months to come.”

PayPal’s introductory steps in esports were taken in-hand with the Rainbow Six franchise developer in November 2018 when the pair inked its initial partnership together. Through this extension, the online payment platform intends on ‘strengthening its role as a key partner of the Rainbow Six Siege community’ by offering fans incentives at live events and producing additional content.

Jill Cress, Vice President Consumer Marketing at PayPal added: “Video games are at the heart of the digital industry and are expected to grow continuously to $200 bln (~£146.6 bln) in the coming years. On its own, esports already accounts for an audience of more than 92 million enthusiasts in Europe and is expanding at a fantastic pace with unprecedented community engagement. We are happy to collaborate with Ubisoft once again to offer to their community new and exclusive experiences”.

Esports Insider says: If there’s anything to draw from this renewal, it’s that PayPal has solely been working with Ubisoft and Rainbow Six since entering esports in 2018. To us, that signals a good working relationship between the pair which is able to benefit both sides involved.
