12 Jan Call of Duty League Opening Weekend Date Announced
Call of Duty League action returns this month, here are all the details.
The Call of Duty League 2021 season has been highly anticipated since the conclusion of the previous. With the LA Thieves joining and OpTic returning to its rightful owner, there’s a lot to look forward to. Well, the CDL has finally announced the start date of the season, along with a special pre-season event to get everyone hyped up.
Kickoff Classic
The Call of Duty League 2021 season starts with a special kickoff event on January 23-24. This is the same weekend as last year’s launch week in Minnesota. This event will see fans have a major say in the matchups we see, with CDL viewers being able to vote on the games.
Fans will be able to choose the opponents of the top-three teams from last year’s season, and decide who they go up against. The possible matchups are:
- 2020 CDL Champions Dallas Empire: New York Subliners, Paris Legion, London Royal Ravens
- Atlanta FaZe: Florida Mutineers, Los Angeles Guerrillas, Seattle Surge
- OpTic Chicago (formerly Chicago Huntsmen): LA Thieves, Minnesota RØKKR, Toronto Ultra
The Kickoff Classic will feature “a unique Group Selection Draw Show” with a “special snake draft format that will allow teams to select the team that will be placed in its next ranked opponents group”. This means that Dallas Empire will be able to select Atlanta FaZe’s first opponent and so on.
CDL 2021 Opening Weekend
The Opening Weekend will take place from February 11-14. This will be hosted by Atlanta FaZe, and see all 12 teams compete in the new format. This event will give us our first taste of the new format for the season.
More details about the prizing, full schedule and format will be released nearer to the Opening Event.
