11 Jan CoD: WestR Complete 3Peat, Obtained & Chiefs Win CDL Challengers Cup #3
This weekend saw the third Challengers Cup, here’s how it went down.
The Challengers Cups are an amateur Call of Duty tournament with $2K up for grabs for the winner. Not only can teams win cash, they also earn valuable Pro Points, these allow them to enter further tournaments, and gives them a higher seed. In North America, WestR continued to dominate, Europe crowned a new victor and APAC saw the giant killing of Renegades.
North America – WestR (B2B2B)
WestR completed the three peat last night by winning every Challengers Cup from the Black Ops Cold War Season. The team of PaulEhx, Zapitus, Venom, and GRVTY has proved to be too strong for numerous weeks now. With other amateurs such as Neptune recently being picked up by pro teams, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some of the WestR team leave, or for a team to sign them as their academy roster.
Europe – Obtained
Obtained Esports won their first Challengers Cup last night at Challengers Cup #3. The roster of BBConor, Callum, Harry and Hicksy took down Team eMpted in the Grand Finals after coming through the Winners Bracket. To do so, they defeated big names such as House Tarth and Dqvee & co, proving they can take on the best Europe has to offer.
APAC – Chiefs
After 17 straight event wins, Renegades have fallen. Chiefs Esports Club finally get to take first place — after a series of second place finishes throughout the current and previous season. Swifty, Crimxzah, Setzyy and Zepa defeated VOID in the Grand Finals. While they lost 3-1 in the first series, they turned it on in the second. Winning 301 to take the crown.
Challengers Cup action is set to return next week with the 4th iteration on January 17.
