The Best Dota 2 Heroes For 2021

The Best Dota 2 Heroes For 2021

Let’s take a look at some of the best Dota 2 heroes right now.

2020 was not Dota 2’s best year. Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, every big LAN tournament (including the entire DPC) was postponed. Therefore, teams had no other option but to play online.

Despite the lack of big tournaments, Valve released several updates, some of which completely changed the game. One of them is called the Mistwoods Update and it introduced a new hero, loads of item changes, and more.

Having said that, let’s take a look at some of the most dominant heroes in the game right now. Keep in mind that there could be changes once the new updates are out.

Lycan

If there is one hero that stood out through 2020, it has to be Lycan. This was the strongest carry in the game at one point, which forced Valve to release several “nerfing” updates. However, players always managed to find a way to utilize his potential.

Currently, Lycan has a nearly 59% win rating (according to DotaBuff), which makes him the most successful hero in the Divine/Immortal bracket. This probably doesn’t come as a surprise because Lycan has always been a popular pick among pro and semi-pro players.

Unfortunately, this is not the easiest hero in the world because you need to have good unit control and overall awareness to be successful. Moreover, Lycan requires you to purchase specific items early on and pressure your opponents as much as possible. Although he has some late-game potential, he is nowhere near as strong as some of the other carries later on.

Broodmother

The second hero that is on this list is widely regarded as one of the most annoying heroes in Dota 2’s history. Broodmother rarely receives any major buffs or nerfs because she is actually pretty balanced. What makes her a force to be reckoned with is the fact that she can completely rip through most heroes in the mid lane.

Moreover, Broodmother is one of the best “snowballing” heroes in the game. This means that once she gets a few items, she quickly becomes really powerful. However, you have to have excellent unit control in order to be dominant with this hero. On top of that, Broodmother is always last picked because she can easily be countered with various heroes, such as Legion Commanded, Earthshaker, etc.

Nyx Assassin

Up next, we have a hero that was really popular before, especially in pro games. Nyx Assassin is one of the best counter-picks to all intelligence mid laners. Thanks to Mana Burn, he is able to control them throughout the entire game.

However, the meta was not very friendly towards those types of heroes. As a result, Nyx was not really worth the pick because his stun is tricky to land and he is not really a strong laner.

Luckily, patch 7.28 changes many things, which is why we will probably see a lot more intelligent heroes right now, especially Invoker. That’s why Nyx Assassin is once again back in the meta, and this time, he is here to stay.

Beastmaster

Beastmaster is one of the offlaners that can single-handedly carry the game if he gets a good start. Due to his skills, he is able to lane pretty well against almost any matchups. Besides leaching experience, Beastmaster has no problems farming the jungle as well, which is why he can often out-level the enemy offlaner and move in for a rotation.

Once he gets his core items (especially Necronomicon), he and his teammates can push the tier one and tier two towers pretty easily. This means that Beastmaster is excellent whenever you want to have good map control.

Before you pick Beastmaster, you should be aware that this is a complicated hero to master. Although it might seem easy, there are many things that you need to do to be a successful BM player.

Razor

Razor is one of the strongest 1v1 heroes in Dota 2. If you take a look at some of the previous patches, you will see that he wasn’t buffed that many times, but he still remained the go-to option when you just want to dominate the lane.

The reason why Razor is so strong is because of his Static Link. This spell allows him to “steal” damage from the enemy hero and use it to his advantage. As a result, laning versus him can be extremely difficult, especially for melee heroes.

This hero is also one of the best cores for mid-game matchups. Most players that pick Razor buy items that allow him to participate in team-fights all the time. Needless to say, this is not the strongest hero in the game, which is why he needs to be effective before that.
