Sledgehammer Games Reportedly Developing COD 2021

Sledgehammer Games are rumored to be developing COD 2021, here’s what we know so far.

There are many things within Call of Duty that change each year, one of those being the developer. In 2014, Sledgehammer Games released Advanced Warfare, becoming the third main Call of Duty developer and breaking the two-year cycle. However, after releasing their second title in 2017, WW2, the studio returned to a supporting role. They assisted the development of both 2019’s Modern Warfare and most recently Black Ops Cold War.

Popular Call of Duty leaker Tom Henderson recently shared an image on Twitter that seems to show the development cycle of Call of Duty from 2019 to 2021.

In this image, he details how Sledgehammer Games may have begun work on COD 2021 in August 2019. Along with this, it has an expected release date of November 12, 2021. This seems likely, as if Call of Duty were to return to a two-year cycle with only Treyarch and Infinity Ward, this would require a completely new game to be made in just 14 months.

In a live stream later the same day, Henderson said how “a lot of Infinity Ward’s resources were put into Warzone” and therefore they continued development right into September 2020. If Sledgehammer Games are to be developing COD 2021, they will have reportedly had a two year and three month development period.

We don’t know if this game will be a sequel to Advanced Warfare or World War 2. But we can expect to find out more around May.
